At Ushahidi, our software is always built on the idea of “meeting people where they already are.” Over this past few months, that changed. For the Kenyan 2017 election we ran the Uchaguzi election monitoring program, and working in partnership with Facebook, we built a Facebook Messenger chatbot that integrated into Ushahidi.

http://akirachix.com/Linda Kamau, who has been with Ushahidi for eight years and is the senior developer on the TenFour product, realized that she had to make sure the 22 AkiraChix students were OK. This was the first time we needed to use TenFour since the Westgate attacks which motivated us to build an app that help teams check in on their staff during emergencies.

With the eagerly awaited announcement of the Presidential result and the publicly contested provisional results that were aired in the media, it is of no surprise that most of the posts that we received today centered around counting irregularities, protest over the declared results and incidences of violence.
